The book gets very specific—again, with some very pertinent details—when it describes the landmark litigation battles that the Vagos and police agencies fought out in court. This was some very heavy stuff that established and exposed a lot of precedents in the way that law enforcement legally—and sometimes not-so-legally—interacts with the clubs. This book goes many levels farther than just the life story of El Monte-born, Terry Orendorff. It’s a history and a commentary on this entire lifestyle and just how much clubs like the Vagos and men like Terry the Tramp have influenced it.
